The Book of Mormon claims that the man was divinely inspired whereas the Late War only mentions that he was intelligent
The Book of Mormon claims that Columbus was inspired but the Late War only notes that he was intelligent.
There are other possibilities for the man mentioned in 1 Nephi 13:12
Other potential candidates that may have fulfilled the prophecy of Nephi have been suggested. The argument rests on the assumption that Christopher Columbus could be the only candidate to fulfill the prophecy. One very plausible suggestion is Bartolomé De Las Casas.
